Here’s a little tour through the Finnish city Helsinki via photos I took in one day:
The places I visited in Helsinki are all on a walking distance, except for Suomenlinna which can be visited by ferry. The places where I took my photographs can be found in below map:
Central Square Kauppatori
This is the place where you can find streetfood, stalls with souvenirs and the Allas Sea pool. This is also the place where you can take the ferry to Suomenlinna.
A view of Central Square Kauppatori and in the distance the Helsinki cathedral.
Streetfood at Central Square Kauppatori.
And at Kauppatorin I tried a local dish, this is Reindeer sausage with fries, pickles, lettuce, mayo and a fried egg. A huge tasty meal 🙂
Allas Sea Pool a heated pool near central square Kauppatori, where you can take a dip in Finnish waters all year round.
Harbour views as seen from the Allas Sea Pool deck.
Don’t forget to visit the Oespenski Cathedral, it is near the Central Kauppatori Square.
Unesco site: the fortress of Suomenlinna
Fortress Suomenlinna is one of Finland’s most popular sights and it is only a very short ferry crossing from Helsinki.
Views as seen from the ferry to Suomenlinna.
Interesting fact: Suomenlinna’s construction began in the mid-18th century, when Finland was still part of Sweden.
The entrance of Suomenlinna.
Exploring the fortress.
It was very quiet during our visit.
Visiting Helsinki Senate Square and surroundings
May not be missed during your stay in Helsinki. A distinctive landmark in the Helsinki cityscape, with its tall green dome surrounded by four smaller domes. A highlight of the trip.
A must to visit when in Helsinki.
The Three Smiths Statue is a sculpture by Felix Nylund.
